What’s going on for the week of December 1st – 7th

Hello Everyone!

This week is going to be a busy week! We have 4 events this week that we would love for you to support.

December 2nd, 2014- We will be hosting a twitterstorm to support Honor the Earth. As many of you already know, Honor the Earth has been leading in the fight against fossil fuel infrastructure in the Great Lakes for the past year – and our fight is intensifying. Enbridge is intent on moving tar sands and fracked Bakken oil through our sacred lands. Indigenous communities have been a leading force of opposition in the region. Because of this, Enbridge is targeting our community specifically in a number of desperate ways – most recently they’ve taken out advertisements in local papers advertising a position for a “Tribal Community Specialist”. They hope this Indian Whisperer can help them to sell their dirty oil transportation plan to our communities – which maintain treaty rights in the region.

Twitterstorm will follow directly after Thunderclap message is sent, at 7:00 pm CST. There will be pre-made tweets available for the supporting Twitter storm. Please use the following hashtags #IndianWhisperer #OilAgenda #LoveWaterNotOil #StopThePipeline #NoKXL

You can join the Thunderclap here ->> https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/19859-honor-the-earth?locale=en

December 4th, 2014 – We will be hosting a #NotYourTigerlily Twitterstorm at 8/7pm central to coincide with NBC’s airing of Peter Pan Live! Once again subjecting the indigenous communities of this country to the mockery of their identities and culture for the sake of entertainment. Click here to show your support: https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/19943-notyourtigerlily-twitterstorm?locale=en

Peter Pan has the most racist and damaging portrayals of indigenous people. In every single reincarnation, whether through film, literature, or broadway, what remains the same is the misappropriation of indigenous identities, culture, imagery and the promotion of violence towards indigenous women. So please join and take a stand against #RedfaceDisgrace!

A pre-made tweet list will be made available.

December 7th, 2014 – Arizona to Rally Against Native Mascots will be staging a rally during the game between the Arizona Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs in Glendale, Arizona. The Rally will start at 10:30 am.

Amanda Blackhorse, Plaintiff in Redskins case urges Chiefs to change their name

““I’m not sure there’s anything the [Chiefs] can do at this point other than look for another name,” Blackhorse told the Kansas City Star. “They could be the team that says, ‘You know what? We understand the issue and we don’t want to be Dan Snyder and fight this in court forever. We want to do the right thing and move forward and avoid this entire battle.’ I’m sure fans will be upset, but still, that’s doing the right thing. If they want to be sensitive to Native American people, that’s the thing to do.””

Can’t join the protest in-person? Support the thunderclap that will set off a twitterstorm to support those with mocs on the ground. You can support the thunderclap here: https://www.thunderclap.it/projects/19671-arizona-notyourchief-rally

A pre-made tweet list will be made available.

December 1st-12th – #EyesOnPeru! Calling all Idle No More folks, Earth Guardians, Water and Land Defenders! From December 1st to 12th, it’s time to let the global climate policy makers who will be meeting in Lima, Peru, know that we demand a safe future for ourselves and those yet to come – share YOUR concerns about climate during these days by uploading your photos with YOUR message to the UN Climate Negotiators tweeting to UN Climate Talks at @UN_ClimateTalks and using #EyesOnPeru. Join the FB event: https://www.facebook.com/events/295757207297959/

From the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change website: The 20th session of the Conference of the Parties and the 10th session of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol will be held from 1 to 12 December. COP 20/CMP 10 will be hosted by the Government of Peru, in Lima, Peru.

We must make sure the policy makers understand that we know they are meeting to determine whether or not climate chaos will continue unabated. We demand:

– A world-wide reduction in carbon emissions

– Stop to the carbon trading scheme known as REDD+

– Hold fossil fuel corporations financially and legally
accountable for their harms

– Fund the account for climate refugees

We invite you and your group (if you have one) to organize an event and share it far and wide. Not in a group? Take a photo of you and your friends with sign(s) of what you want the Climate Negotiators to know and post here and on other social media outlets. #EyesOnPeru
