Not Your Mascots has feet on the ground during this protest. Those who are unable to attend the rally in person are asked to show support through social media using the #NoKXL hashtag. Twitterstorm will follow directly after Thunderclap message is sent, at 12:00 pm EST. There will be pre-made tweets available for the supporting Twitter storm.
What is a Thunderclap?
Thunderclap is a “crowdspeaking” platform that lets individuals and companies rally people together to spread a message. The site uses an “all-or-nothing” model similar to crowdfunding sites such Kickstarter, in that if the campaign does not meet its desired number of supporters in the given time frame, the organizer receives none of the donations.
How does Thunderclap work?
On Thunderclap, backers donate tweets and social media posts rather than money. Not Your Mascots, Inc. has successfully utilized this crowdspeaking platform on several occasions. We at Not Your Mascots see this tool as vital in getting the word out about important events, and in support of feet on the ground activists fighting for native rights across the country.
Who is running these Thunderclaps?
Not Your Mascots, Inc. is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to addressing the misappropriation of Indigenous identity and imagery through the acceptance of mascots, stereotypes and racist behaviors as well as the harmful effect that they have on indigenous children and communities. The focus of Not Your Mascots is to address these issues through the utilization of education, social media, as well as community and media outreach.
